About our farm:
We are a small farm located in Plum Borough, originally established in the late 1970’s when meat prices began to soar. We brought our first calf home from the auction on the back seat of Mom’s Cadillac. Over the years we expanded to beef cows, sheep, chickens and horses.
Years of hard work and countless hours helped us realize we needed to make a change. That desire to change and make farm life a little easier lead us to Katahdin Hair Sheep. Katahdin sheep are so much less care, we have completely eliminated cows from our farm.
Currently, we have three separate breeding flocks and have plans to expand. We have both registered and commercial grade Katahdins sold for breeding and meat. Our animals are handled daily by the whole family. Daily contact provides a friendly and less stressful environment for the sheep. This atmosphere leads to increased growth and production for the sheep and lambs. Our animals eat a forage based diet and are supplemented with grain on a daily basis in the winter and a few times a week in the summer. In 2015 we added protein & mineral tubs as a supplement. We only use a de-wormer when necessary and vaccinations are kept to a minimum (used for the health and safety of both the animals and people coming in contact).
Here at Hawk View Katahdins we want to continue our passion of farm life and want to provide not only our own family with top quality lambs, but your family too. Feel free to contact us for pricing and any additional information.
In the mid 1900's our place was part of the Cribb's Coal Mine. Three of the coke ovens are still in existence on the property as well as a small building used to repair the coal cars.
